Some nights you simply must cease and soak all of it in.
BET Awards weekend kicked off with a fantastically curated night honoring the legendary music government Sylvia Rhone. Hosted by Monami Productions and Mona Scott-Younger and supported by the Black Music Collective, the night time was a love letter to Black music, tradition, and the ladies who’ve formed it.
For many who might not know, Sylvia Rhone is among the strongest and trailblazing executives within the historical past of the music trade. As President of Epic Data, she has championed a number of the greatest names in music, from Beyoncé to Travis Scott. A graduate of the Wharton College of Enterprise, Rhone turned the primary Black girl to move a serious file label when she was appointed CEO of EastWest Data in 1994 — a milestone that paved the best way for generations of Black girls within the music enterprise. Her a long time of service to the tradition have been nothing wanting historic, and a night in her honor was lengthy overdue.

The night time featured remarks by none aside from Missy Elliott, who credit Sylvia Rhone for her music profession. Apparently Missy needed to have her personal label, however Rhone inspired Missy to offer her only one album–which was 5! The world is grateful for Sylvia Rhone certainly!
Performances by Stevie Marvel, Jozzy, and Terrell Music stored the night time transferring — and sure, when Stevie Marvel took the stage, the room felt each single observe (although he sang that he didn’t really feel like singing).
For the event, I wore a crimson leather-based trench coat look by Althea Mink, styled with Norma Kamali shorts, crimson stockings, and Steve Madden heels — a full-red second that felt proper for an evening this particular. Make-up was by the Latrice Johnson, and hair was coiffed by Kalief W utilizing Kendras Boutique Hair.

Nights like this are a reminder of why we do what we do. Right here’s to Sylvia Rhone, to Black music, and to much more magic this BET Awards weekend. 💣
